This Project was for a Hawaii based surfboard company, Jud Lau Surfboards. I created two custom illustrative logos for their latest pro model inspired by the maui surfer’s nickname, “King Kong.” In the first design, the upper body of a massive gorilla including his head, chest, and arms forms the crashing lip of a barreling wave, with a surfer riding through the tube, narrowly escaping its aggressive power. The second design shows the gorilla poised above a perfect A-frame wave about to crash, as the surfer charges toward the chaos. Both pieces blend bold, comic inspired illustration with dramatic surf imagery, capturing the raw intensity of the waves in Maui and the fearless energy of the surfer’s persona.
